Which One Are You?

A close family friend recently found out that I have been blogging again. I don't know why, but I don't like telling people, even family and friends, that I have a blog, nor do I like asking them whether or not, they have been reading my posts.

But this family friend asked me some questions which I have been pondering for a very long time. But I have finally came up with a few answers which I am pretty much satisfied with.

Well, here are the questions:

  • What type of Blogger are you?
Some people, like Xiaxue are termed as Famous Bloggers. They are paid to advertise certain places and products through their posts. Now this benefits both the person who is paying the blogger, and the blogger themselves. Now this is because, the person who is paying the blogger will, without a doubt, get mush greater boost (amount depends on how many people reads and believes the blogger that is advertising the product). This will of course boost his income and so on. The blogger wil not lose out. This is because they may get more than cash. What I mean is, that they may get sponsored by the companies, and this can definitely come in handy when you're a little down on cash.

But other than advertising, bloggers(some) , to me, are like the online versions of paparazzis. They are the quickest at getting photographs of celebrities that have leaked out to the net, they are also the first to know about the hottest topics of celebs as well. One famous "online paparazzi"'s site that I head to occasionally would be Perez Hilton.

But putting the term "Blogger" aside, there are, in fact others who own blogs, and do not term themselves as bloggers at all. Some of them prefer to be called online journalists. And one of them who's site I visit every once in a while, would be Matthew Zachary Liu.

In my opinion, online journalists are people who reflect alot. Most online journalists' sites which I have been to, are mostly filled with beautiful photographs of events and places that they have been to. But they not only talk about themselves. In fact, they do share opinions of issues, like the US precedency, the rise of ERP and so on. These are the people who fill their sites with "stories" just like how we update our diaries back in school days.

Now it boils down to me. Well, I don't really see myself as a blogger nor do I see myself as an online journalist. I just have blog to share the stories of my life, important events, things and people that are close to my heart, and definitely issues which I have strong opinions on. I do occasionally blog about "paparazzi" issues. So, I'm kinda' stuck in-between. But if I were to have a term for myself, it would simply be, A person who has a blog, that's it!
  • Why did you start blogging?
It all started out when I was in Secondary Two. I thought that it would be cool, since all my friends were having one too. I took this chance to talk about issues that I had in school, and at home. But it wasn't really enjoyable because all I did was nag, rant, complain and accuse. It felt really negative. But after I joined Nuffnang, and had events to talk about, my entire blog became different, as it wasn't feel with so much negatvity anymore.
  • What have you learned from it?
Just like having Dairies, blogs are tools that help you reflect on your actions, and make you question yourself, whether what you did, could be done any better. It makes you think alot, and you start feeling not for yourself, but for your close ones as well.

I also learned how irritating it gets when people plagairise you. I have not, and shall continue to not plagairise anyone. I learned that plagairism is a crime and idiots should wreck their own brain juices to post about something, rather than get all the fame from someone else's hard work.

Words can mean differently to different people. When I say "How's the atmosphere down there?", friends would take it as a joke. But to strangers who don't know me at all, they would immediately go "wah lao, so rude. She so tall meh?"So if you really want to share your opinions on something or someone, do mind your language.

I also learned that in order to have more people to read about your posts, one should never post about daily events, by literally typing "Oh i woke up at 6.30 then went toilet to brush teeth. Brush already then took shower. Shower already then hungry then go eat breakfast. After that sian mah, so watch tv loh. Watch le, still sian, then i fall asleep on the couch. but soon after, kena wake up by my parents quarrel. they so kb, then i slam the door go out find friends loh. no one free, then i go kopitiam sit down until late at night. after that i go home loh. go home, no one at home. then i go eat dinner, my mum cook si beh best. then eat full full, then watch tv a while. then very late liao, then go sleep loh." And the whole cycle continues the next day.
  • If you could have a career in blogging, would you take it up?
If it is a side line job, I wouldn't mind taking it up. But I don't think that I am good enough, nor can I stand the hours of fine-tuning the words just to make all the advertisements sound right. My passion is still in teaching, kids and animals, and I don't think I will let that go any time soon. Blogging is just a hobby to me. I do it for fun, and nothing more or less than that.

So are you a blogger or an online journalist?

Loves.
