Once Upon A Time..

There was once a little girl, Katie, who lived in a little house in a faraway land.

Katie was beautiful. She had black hair that flowed opulently down her back. Her face was doll-like, with flawless skin and eyes that resembled shimmering opals. She was a quiet and shy child and no one could hardly hear her speak. But when she did, it was like magic. Such mellifluous voice could embrace anyone with so much warmth, that it could melt your heart. She was adorable, and she had the passion to sing.

And even though it seemed so picture-perfect, Katie was not happy at all. She was a poor orphan who lived with a stranger. The stranger was her saviour, because he was the one who pitied and sheltered her from the streets where the vicious war had left her, without a single relative.

The saviour went by the name of Mr. Jonkins. He was a stout old man, with calloused fingers that wobbled as he heaved himself about with a walking stick. He was as ancient as a grandfather clock and every step seeped energy out of him, making him breathless. Thus, he could not work. And so, Katie was his servant.

But Katie did not mind. In fact, she was delighted that she could repay his kindness by taking care of him. She was clad in dirty old rags that wrapped around her fine body, revealing her slender and feminine physique. She scrubbed at the tiles on the floor, washed the toilet, made the bed, and even massaged the old man every single day.

She was never bored and she never complained. All she did, was sing, while she did her chores. Her singing entertained the old man, and he often praised her. She was always as delighted at receiving his comments, as a kid receiving candy.

She promised herself that she would continue singing, so long as the old man lived.

But things took a dratic turn one day, when ......

To be continued.

Hey, I know it's pretty random to be story-telling here. But I've always wanted to share "self-created stories" in my blog. I'm not good at it, but I'll still try to improve.

The reason why I love stories so much is because it is very much like our Lives.
Stories are created with our own twists and ending. And our lives too are created with twists and ending. How we respond to each action in Life, determines the next chapter of the story.

All of our lives are stories yet to be completed. And it is definitely up to us, to decide what happens next.

Movies!

I love going to Wikipedia, Youtube, and Apple to do alittle "research" on not only the movies I want to watch, but the movies that are not yet screened.

I especially love Apple as it not only gives a little sypnosis of the new movies not yet in town, but also show the trailers! What's more is that it's really clear.

And here are the lists of Movies that I would love to catch!

1. InkHeart (January 2009)

Photobucket

A MUST WATCH!!! Great film, great storyline, great graphics and sound.

In the story of Inkheart, there is a story within a story: Mo originally brought 4 of Inkheart's characters to life while reading aloud from a novel which is also called Inkheart - Basta, Capricorn, Dustfinger, and Dustfinger's pet marten, Gwin. Dustfinger, a fire eater, desperately wants to return to the world of the fictional novel; Capricorn, the villain of both the "real" and "imaginary" stories, wants Mo (and later, Meggie, who shares her father's unusual gift) to summon an evil monster forged from the ashes of the murdered known as the Shadow, from the fictional novel; and Basta is Capricorn's right-hand man who loves his knife. There is a dramatic twist when one day, 9 years after the characters pop out, Dustfinger and Gwin show up on Meggie and Mo's doorstep begging Mo to send him back into the world of inkheart. He will do whatever it takes to get back to the land he loves, maybe even betray Mo and Meggie to Capricorn...

On more than one level, Inkheart is a book about books and the love of reading. Meggie and Mo are both avid readers; Meggie has carried a box (made by her father) of her favorite books with her all of her life. But also, Inkheart references many other works of literature. In addition to the characters from the fictional novel Inkheart, Mo also brings to life a boy (named Farid) who belongs in The Book of One Thousand and One Nights, and makes gold appear from Treasure Island. Meggie's reading causes Tinker Bell from Peter Pan to appear, and she also conjures up the soldier from "The Steadfast Tin Soldier," a Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, at the request of the Magpie, Capricorn's mother. Later, during an experiment for Fenoglio, she also solicits the soldier back.

A very true sotry, I suppose an eye-opener to all those who are oblivious about happenings all over the world.

A feature length documentary film that reveals the world’s 27 million dirtiest secrets: there are more slaves today than ever before in human history. CALL+RESPONSE takes viewers deep undercover where slavery is thriving - from the child brothels of Cambodia to the slave brick kilns of rural India - and reveals that in 2007, Slave Traders made more money than Google, Nike and Starbucks combined.

3. Bedtime Stories

Although it's a little like InkHeart, I still find it pretty nice.

Bedtime Stories is a 2008 family fantasy comedy film. The film will be directed by Adam Shankman and will star Adam Sandler. Sandler's production company Happy Madison and Andrew Gunn's company Gunn Films will produce the film, and Walt Disney Pictures will distribute the film.

Sandler plays Skeeter Bronson, a hotel handyman whose life is changed forever when the bedtime stories he tells his niece and nephew start to mysteriously come true. He attempts to take advantage of the phenomenon, incorporating his own aspirations into one outlandish tale after another, but it's the kids' unexpected contributions that turn Skeeter's life upside down.

4. Yes Man

Photobucket

Yes Man is an upcoming 2008 American comedy film directed by Peyton Reed and starring Jim Carrey. The film is based on the true story and 2005 biography 'Yes Man' by British humorist Danny Wallace. Production began in Los Angeles in October 2007.

Carl Allen(Jim Carrey) is challenged to say yes to everything that comes his way in his life (not only from his wife), leading to a series of comedic events.

"I, Danny Wallace, being of sound mind and body, do hereby write this manifesto for my life. I swear I will be more open to opportunity. I swear I will live my life taking every available chance. I will say Yes to every favour, request, suggestion and invitation. I will swear to say yes where once I would say no.'

Danny Wallace had been staying in. Far too much. Having been dumped by his girlfriend, he really wasn't doing the young, free and single thing very well. Instead, he was avoiding people. Texting them instead of calling them. Calling them instead of meeting them. That is until that one fateful date when a mystery man on a late-night bus told him to 'Say Yes more'. These three simple words changed Danny's life forever.

"Yes Man" is the story of what happened when Danny decided to say yes to everything, in order to make his life more interesting. And boy, did it get more interesting.

Trailer:

Those are my Top 10 movies to catch this year. What's yours?

More scandals?

It all started with a kiss..

Photobucket

Between
Micheal Jackson and his wife(then) Lisa Marie Presley at the VMAs in 1994, which unfortunately wasn't towards their advantage, as their marriage ended after 5 years of being together.

BUT..

Seeing that the paparazzi got such a good shot at it, and that it was the talk of the town, for a LONG time,
Madonna became competitive. She not only locked lips with Britney Spears, but Christina Aguilera as well!

I bet while kissing them, she'd be thinking: "Hah! One more than Micheal Jackson!"

Photobucket

Obviously Justin Timberlake (Britney's Ex) was happy at all. But who cares?
All three of the girls had gotten more fame than anyone else in the World!!

More and more artistes were in need for fame and many tried various ways to steal the attention back, and have the paparazzi leech onto their skin. Almost everyone tried, and failed. All, except
Paris Hilton.

Who managed to "leak" her sex scandal all over the web. Not only was she pleased, but she seemed excited at the fact that the paparazzi were producing a cacophony of clicks, shouts, screams, microphones; everyone was after
Paris Hilton.

Singapore, being very competitive, and having a "everything must have" attitude, had been competing with America for a long time. It started with American Idol. Singapore, being competitive and cosmopolitan, started not only Singapore Idol, but Campus Superstar, Project Superstar, Superband, Vasantham Star, and Anugerah.

Thus, it was not surprising to see Singapore with one of it's very own sex scandal "leak" onto the net. And who else but to send "
Tammy" to do it.

Photobucket

This definitely caused a stir in the World wide net, but it was not going to end there.

Because Hong Kong decided to be part of this, and sent
Edison Chen to "do his magic".

He "leaked" not one, but MANY videos of his scandals with many of his past girlfriends.
Thus, winning the title of getting most fame on him.

It was quite for a couple of months. But soon after,
Vanessa Anne Hudgens could not take the silent awkwardness anymore, and so "leaked" her nude photos that were only meant for her boyfriend, Zac Efron.

Britney was speechless and freaked out that no attention was at here, and so, she decided to shave her head bald.

Photobucket

China decided to take action and sent "
Xiao Yun" to do her thing.

This of course, involved donations and lots of skin. Oh, and hairy armpits.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

But fear not Singapore, "
Sun Tan" is here to save the day!

Photobucket

Why does she beat
Xiao Yun in this?

This week, being the Singapore First Ever Night Race, everyone should be crazy over it right? But, here comes the twist. If you go check the net, you'd realize it's not the F1 people are searching for. Instead it's "Sun Tan"'s scandal everyone is searching for, despite this week being the week of the F1 Race! So the title definitely goes to her.

What's going to happen next??
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

But on a serious note, I'm pretty concerned. And I don't seem to be the only one. People since "tammy nyp" times had already raised questions about the future generations.

These incidents have not only made teens appear stupid, but showed the world that teens cannot learn from others' mistakes. With the modernization going on around the world, things are bound to happen, and that includes leakage of sex tapes. Apart from encouraging youths to create more sex tapes (due to the fame and attention given), this incidents has also shown that youths not only disrespect their bodies, but also are incapable of making Right decisions in Life.

Despite being a teen, I am disappointed at the rate of teenagers doing stupid things for mere entertainment.

A plea to all youths, stop embarrassing your family, yourself and more importantly Youths of the world.

Stress

What is stress?

Is it a self-planted feeling that you put in place when you see others freaking out?

Is it the desperation to break down because you can't meet the deadline?

Is it the sort of feeling where the whole world seems to not understand you, and that you're left on your own to deal with everything?

Is it the period of time for you to turn anorexic?

Is it the time to roll your eyes at every low-class peasant, and punch the high class bimbos?

7 deadly sins

There is nowhere in the Christian Bible that a list of the Seven Deadly Sins is given, although lists of virtues contrasted with lists of sins are found in certain books of the New Testament, such as the Epistle to the Galatians. The modern concept of the Seven Deadly Sins is linked to the works of the 4th century monk Evagrius Ponticus, who listed eight "evil thoughts" as follows (Refoule, 1967):

Gluttony; fornication; avarice; sorrow; anger; discouragement; vainglory; pride.

The first three of these sins, as Refoule explains, link to lustful appetite; anger links with the irascible; and vainglory and pride link with the intellect. Some years later, Pope Gregory I (Pope Gregory the Great) would revise this list to form the more common "Seven Deadly Sins".

The Seven Deadly Sins: LUST by `blackeri on deviantART

Lust (or lechery) is usually thought of as involving obsessive or excessive thoughts or desires of a sexual nature. Giving in to lusts can lead to sexual or sociological compulsions and/or transgressions including (but obviously not limited to) sexual addiction, adultery, bestiality, rape, and incest.[citations needed] Dante's criterion was "excessive love of others," which therefore rendered love and devotion to God as secondary. In "Purgatorio", the penitent walks within flames to purge himself of lustful/sexual thoughts and feelings.

The Seven Deadly Sins:GLUTTONY by `blackeri on deviantART

Derived from the Latin gluttire, meaning to gulp down or swallow, gluttony is the over-indulgence and over-consumption of anything to the point of waste. In the Christian religions, it is considered a sin because of the excessive desire for food, or its withholding from the needy.[3]

Depending on the culture, it can be seen as either a vice or a sign of status. Where food is relatively scarce, being able to eat well might be something to take pride in (although this can also result in a moral backlash when confronted with the reality of those less fortunate). Where food is routinely plentiful, it may be considered a sign of self control to resist the temptation to over-indulge.

Medieval church leaders (e.g., Thomas Aquinas) took a more expansive view of gluttony,[3] arguing that it could also include an obsessive anticipation of meals, and the constant eating of delicacies and excessively costly foods.[4] He went so far as to prepare a list of six ways to commit gluttony, including

Praepropere, eating too soon;
Laute (washedly), eating finely;
Nimis, eating too much;
Ardenter, eating burningly;
Studiose (keenly), eating daintily;
Forente (boringly), eating wildly.

The Seven Deadly Sins: AVARICE by `blackeri on deviantART

Greed (or avarice, covetousness) is, like lust and gluttony, a sin of excess. However, greed (as seen by the church) is applied to the acquisition of wealth in particular. St. Thomas Aquinas wrote that greed was "a sin against God, just as all mortal sins, in as much as man condemns things eternal for the sake of temporal things." In Dante's Purgatory, the penitents were bound and laid face down on the ground for having concentrated too much on earthly thoughts. "Avarice" is more of a blanket term that can describe many other examples of greedy behavior. These include disloyalty, deliberate betrayal, or treason,[citations needed] especially for personal gain, for example through bribery . Scavenging and hoarding of materials or objects, theft and robbery, especially by means of violence, trickery, or manipulation of authority are all actions that may be inspired by greed. Such misdeeds can include simony, where one profits from soliciting goods within the actual confines of a church.

Photobucket

More than other sins, the definition of sloth has changed considerably since its original inclusion among the seven deadly sins. In fact it was first called the sin of sadness or despair. It had been in the early years of Christianity characterized by what modern writers would now describe as melancholy: apathy, depression, and joylessness — the last being viewed as being a refusal to enjoy the goodness of God and the world he created. Originally, its place was fulfilled by two other aspects, acedia and sadness. The former described a spiritual apathy that affected the faithful by discouraging them from their religious work. Sadness (tristitia in Latin) described a feeling of dissatisfaction or discontent, which caused unhappiness with one's current situation. When Thomas Aquinas selected acedia for his list, he described it as an "uneasiness of the mind", being a progenitor for lesser sins such as restlessness and instability. Dante refined this definition further, describing sloth as being the "failure to love God with all one's heart, all one's mind and all one's soul." He also described it as the middle sin, and as such was the only sin characterised by an absence or insufficiency of love. In his "Purgatorio", the slothful penitents were made to run continuously at top speed.

The modern view of the vice, as highlighted by its contrary virtue of zeal or diligence, is that it represents the failure to utilize one's talents and gifts. For example, a student who does not work beyond what is required (and thus fails to achieve his or her full potential) could be labeled slothful.

Current interpretations are therefore much less stringent and comprehensive than they were in medieval times, and portray sloth as being more simply a sin of laziness or indifference, of an unwillingness to act, an unwillingness to care (rather than a failure to love God and his works). For this reason sloth is now often seen as being considerably less serious than the other sins, more a sin of omission than of commission.

The sloth, a South American mammal, was named after this sin by Roman Catholic explorers.

The Seven Deadly Sins: WRATH by `blackeri on deviantART

Wrath (or anger) may be described as inordinate and uncontrolled feelings of hatred and anger. These feelings can manifest as vehement denial of the truth, both to others and in the form of self-denial, impatience with the procedure of law, and the desire to seek revenge outside of the workings of the justice system (such as engaging in vigilantism)[citations needed] and generally wishing to do evil or harm to others. The transgressions borne of vengeance are among the most serious, including murder, assault, and in extreme cases, genocide. Wrath is the only sin not necessarily associated with selfishness or self-interest (although one can of course be wrathful for selfish reasons, such as jealousy, closely related to the sin of envy). Dante described vengeance as "love of justice perverted to revenge and spite". In its original form, the sin of wrath also encompassed anger pointed internally rather than externally. Thus suicide was deemed as the ultimate, albeit tragic, expression of wrath directed inwardly, a final rejection of God's gifts.

The Seven Deadly Sins: ENVY by `blackeri on deviantART

Like greed, envy may be characterized by an insatiable desire; they differ, however, for two main reasons. First, greed is largely associated with material goods, whereas envy may apply more generally. Second, those who commit the sin of envy resent that another person has something they perceive themselves as lacking, and wish the other person to be deprived of it. Dante defined this as "love of one's own good perverted to a desire to deprive other men of theirs." In Dante's Purgatory, the punishment for the envious is to have their eyes sewn shut with wire, because they have gained sinful pleasure from seeing others brought low. Aquinas described envy as "sorrow for another's good".

The Seven Deadly Sins: VANITY by `blackeri on deviantART

In almost every list pride (or hubris or vanity) is considered the original and most serious of the seven deadly sins, and indeed the ultimate source from which the others arise. It is identified as a desire to be more important or attractive than others, failing to give compliments to others though they may be deserving of them,[citation needed] and excessive love of self (especially holding self out of proper position toward God). Dante's definition was "love of self perverted to hatred and contempt for one's neighbor." In Jacob Bidermann's medieval miracle play, Cenodoxus, pride is the deadliest of all the sins and leads directly to the damnation of the titulary famed Parisian doctor. In perhaps the best-known example, the story of Lucifer, pride (his desire to compete with God) was what caused his fall from Heaven, and his resultant transformation into Satan. Vanity and narcissism are prime examples of this sin. In Dante's Divine Comedy, the penitent were forced to walk with stone slabs bearing down on their backs in order to induce feelings of humility.

Art pieces (above and below) done by two fantastic Artists from Deviantart.

I was drawn to DeviantArt ever since my brother was into Art. Both he and I got ideas for our Art examinations from this site. It showcases not only digital artwork, but others like tattoos, graffitti, and even anime. It is definitely a site that one should visit, if you're interested in Art.

Out of the many wondeful artwork in deviantart, I was drawn to The 7 deadly sins, despite still being an Atheist. Reason being that these sins are what we experience, or rather, commit, every single day, either with a conscience or not.

Some of us are aware of the sins that we are carrying out, some of us simply don't. Do you?

I know that I sure am aware of the sins that I commit every single day. And despite trying to lessen them, I am unable to undo them. And I fear of Judgement Day, where we have to pay for our sins commited.

Don't fear Death? Then you're wrong. Never believe someone who says he/she doesn't fear Death. Why? Because if you don't fear death, you wouldn't take precautions, at all.

Why wear a helmet when you're on a bike? Why even applying brakes when you're going downslope? Why hesitate when suicide comes into your head? Why think beofre you act?

Everyone fears Death, unless you're God, where you can recreate creatures, be it humans, animals or organisms. Never been God? People have created games to let you experience the feeling of being GOD.

Come to think of it, go try out SIMS and SPORE from the EA Games. They definitely can make you feel God-like. And eventually turn you sadistic as you find ways to humour yourself by either drowning your Sims or burning the house down.

No kidding.

Don't give up

I guess people have the point of time in Lifr where they question not only themselves but their beliefs. We often in doubt, so much that we turn to others for words of advice, and encouragement.

I would like to thank all those who tagged on my blog, encouraging me not to give up blogging. These little words of encouragement do make a difference as it shows that there are at least some people out there who appreciate reading my blog; with the interests that I share in my Life.

Putting that aside, I would like to add that today's the last day for the Games Convention Asia 2008. Click Here.

It's FREE . And if you'd like to get a chance to play EA's newest game, SPORE, you'd better hurry up!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This week has passed rather quickly, despite the dreadfulness of recieving the examination results and the continuous "encouraging and inspiring" nags from the disappointed teachers.

I would not say that I am very delighted with my results, nor am I disappointed with them. It's more of a so-so kind of feeling.

But this week showed me how examinations can affect people, especially my friends. They either pressurize themselves by breaking down and forcing themselves to study every single day from now onwards, or they just GIVE UP.

I've never been that stressed out for exams before, so I have no idea on what to say or do when I see friends breaking down (especially this) , stressing out or simply giving up. But all I can say now is that, no matter what, never let it control you, you always have the upperhand in things, so don't give up.

I hate it when people use the word "HOW".

I grew up in a family who rarely used the word HOW. Instead we find alternatives that may help to solve the problem. We found solutions, not add problems to worsen, and so over the years, I became more and more intolerant to people, especially the whiney ones who always asked "HOW?" And so I'd like to apologize if I had blown up at anyone when the "HOW" word was used, because time to time, it's really sickening to see someone whine "how this, how that" so much, instead of finding a way out. hahah.

Misery

I received a few phone calls and messages last night. Apparently it was one of the staff for Games Convention Asia 2008. Click Here

I was informed that I had the privilege to be one of the first in Asia to sample the new games in town today(in the whole of Asia in fact)! I was delighted. But as I pressed the keypad of my phone to scroll down and finish off the SMS, I was horrified to find that the reporting time for the Convention was at 7.30am!

I was devastated. I hesitantly replied in the SMS, apologizing that I could not make it for that day or the other days.

See, I am a Secondary Four Student and there Intensive Revision Programmes put up for the Graduating classes. This is the year where students leap for joy or cry in puddles of tears as this is one of the crucial year that can determine your future. Yes, I'm taking the O's this year, and as quoted by my teachers, "Every minute, every second is very precious. Study while you eat, bathe or even have breaks. Time waits for no one."

I kept silent from my family until this morning when my mum saw the dreary misery on my face. I lied by telling her that I was just sleepy, and even plastered a innocent smile on my face. But I guess my mum saw it through. I told her about the news I received yesterday and she was as delighted and jumpy as a Mexican bean. She kept saying "Good lah, go lah. Why you still in uniform?"

My eyes widened as I stared at her in disbelief. "You mean I can skip school to go for the Convention?"

"Yah, it's once in a Life time leh. Not everyone can have the privilege".

Just then, I felt every muscle in my body twitch. Why didn't I ask my mother in the first place?!?!? Apparently it was too late, as by the time I told her everything, it was already 7.15. There was no way I could make it to the Convention in City Hall by 7.30.

And so, I had to go to school, with full regrets that I did not ask my mother for advice in the first place.

I swear, from now on, mummy's the number one person whom I will confide in, one whom I'll ask if I have any doubts, even if it's a small matter.

Mums are such wonders to a kid's Life.

Is my BLog Good Enough

This is definitely not a post to add more traffic to my blog, but rather a post to gather feedback from the people behind the screens (hahah).

I've been pondering over it for quite a long time. And I've yet to come up with a final decision. And so, I'd like to ask the people in the cyberworld.

See, I've been thinking of shutting this blog down.

I started this blog with one of the cheesiest URLs in the whole wide world; Lifeisjustlikeadreamtome.blogspot.com.

Yup, that long and stupid. And the posts were mainly about my daily routines where I rant annoyingly and idiotically about the little bums in Life (the twits in my school, back then). Obviously it was boring and soon blogging became more like a chore to me, where I realised that the only people reading my blog was myself, my reflection and close friends.

But I hung on.

I deleted that blog.The Reason

And started a new one, the present one; sitandwhine.blogspot.com

The URL was created mainly due to the fact that I used to think that bloggers were people who sat infront of their computer screens to rant about their horrible day. And so, SitAndWhine stuck with me till now.

Apparently I did not learn my lesson and continued blogging like the same old way, but this time, it was even more boring as there weren't any hot juicy anti-twit gossips to blog about.

Soon after, (after I was exposed to the blogosphere), my blogging style started changing. I still choose to believe that blogging isn't really my cup of tea, but over the years, I've actually grown out of the "ranting" shell and decided to turn the chore of blogging into something more edifying, and that was, to blog with a passion.

Over the years, I have received mix comments about my blog. Some said it was just a waste of space in the blogosphere while some others encouraged me to keep blogging because they were entertained by my posts. I was delighted as I became aware that there are people out there who do appreciate my passion for blogging. But with more exposure to the blogosphere (Thanks to Nuffnang and omy.sg), I was nervous, and was more or so careful in terms I use in my posts. I gained motivation to blog, from the encouragements, and tried to tweak according to the criticisms I received. But, obviously I can't please anyone. And to add salt to the wound, there have been more and more criticisms lately.

It's the traffic of people visiting my blog, but rather the feedback from friends after they had read my blog, that bothers me. Their feedback have definitely discouraged me and although I am hesitant to give up my passion for it, I also do not want to be a mere "space" in the blogosphere.

So is my blog good enough to stay or should I close it down?

What's your inspiration?

Throughout our entire Life, we tend to be confused and begin judging on the Great One, God. Some people believe that worshipping God, is the only way for peace, enlightenment, protection and Love. With a religion, people tend to be more inspired and determined in Life.

The christians have their Bible, the Muslims have their Quran, and the Buddhists and Hindus have their sanskrits. I'm an Atheist, so what do I turn to for inspiration?

Well, I turn to Books.

When I'm not out in the Sun playing sports, nor in school studying, I'll be at home, being a bookworm. Yes, A BookWorm.

I love reading Autobiographies of people as well as books that can change not only the writer's Life, the people involved, but also the reader's Life. And the five books that I love the most are Chicken Soup for the Soul and Books by Mitch Albom.

You can find a whole range of Chicken Soup for the Soul books
Here

I love reading Chicken Soup for the Soul because not only are the short stories capture your attention, they have a deeper meaning towards Life, and is accompanied by a short meaningful phrase at the beginning.

The two books from Chicken Soup that I liked the most were, Chicken Soup for the Cat and Dog lovers (Reason being that I'm an animal lover) and Chicken Soup for the Teens soul (Reason being that I'm still a teen).

I guess these books catered to my every need, want and attention. It gave me answers that I didn't know were possible to get. It helped me to get over my grief of my dead dogs, and also answer the childish adolescence doubts that I had.

The other books, Tuesdays with Morrie, 5 people you meet in heaven and For one more Day, actually served as an eye-opener to me, to not only find deeper meaning to Life, but accompany the rest of your Life with forgiveness, joy and giving.

You can read more of the three books
Here,Here&Here

The books by Mitch Albom can make you all emotional with the stories, feeling both guilt of your past, and determination to make your future better. It teaches you the valuable Lessons in Life that can change your future.

These are my inspirations, so what's yours?

Games Convention Asia 2008

I remember when I was younger, I was crazy over Nintendo Games. I never could get enough of my Sega Saturn, Playstation 1 & 2 and GameBoy Colour because of all the Fantastic games I was exposed to.

I loved playing Donkey Kong, Super Mario Bros., Popeye, Super Spike V'Ball, Super Mario All Stars, Mario Kart, Bomberman, Tennis, Tetris, POKEMON red, blue, gold, silver and all that I can't remember. I especially liked the catridges that had tons of random games for us to pick from.

But a few years later, I was thrown into a whole new dimension, where I was exposed to the computer. From then on, I was hooked on to EA games like SIMS.

But this addiction to EA games did not begin when I was exposed to the computer. In fact, it began far more earlier, when I had the Playstation.

I played games like Batman Begins, One of my favourite, The Command & Conquer Collection especially Red Alert 2 amd 3, Harry Potter (collection), Medal of Honour, Need for Speed, The Simpsons, Another of my favourites, The Sims (I've yet to get the complete set).

These games, The Sims especially, got me hooked onto the computer for hours and hours. And till now, I'm still hooked on to it.

I'm nothing compared to some of my friends who are so engrossed in these games that actually can skip their sleeps and play a fews days long! I wouldn't say I'm a serious gamer, nor am I good at it, but I sure do love to play these games and would be pleased if there were more updates of games from Nintendo and EA.

Well.....

I am actually relieved to know that Singapore actually does have Conventions for gamers to check out and get insights on the latest games!

What am I talking about? Which Convention?

Well, it's The Games Convention Asia 2008!

(Taken from http://www.gc-asia.sg/)

The Games Convention Asia is the first and only platform for the entire electronic game market in Singapore and the Asia-Pacific region. The organizer’s target is to firmly establish what will be the Asia-Pacific region’s biggest convention devoted to digital media, computer games, entertainment and educational software as well as hardware.

The 4 pillar concept of the show is unique – it brings together the whole market chain in only one event. Starting with the Game developers – having their own platform with the GC Asia Conference – over the publishers – finding their place in the business centre – to the casual and hardcore gamer – enjoying the latest games in the dazzle of the public hall.

And the concept works as statistic shows. During September 6 to 9 2007 the first Games Convention Asia attracted 1,000 professional visitors and media representatives and 70,000 public visitors. In addition, 300 international experts from over 20 nations listened to 65 renowned local and foreign speakers during the first GC Asia Conference.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The breath taking fascination of the virtual world at Games Convention Asia in Singapore is the must-see and try experience for every keen gamer. GCA is the place to meet for entertainment-interested maniacs in the Asia-Pacific region. Take part in this great adventure!

Local and international companies will use this event to introduce latest games and products to the market during 3 exciting days. After debuting successfully in 2007 the GCA will exceed the previous attendance of 70,000 visitors making this convention one of the greatest in the electronic entertainment sector. Going beyond gaming the GCA will also feature entertaining information, media education and mind-blowing events.

What are you implying?

Some heave a huge sigh of relief because the Priliminary Examinations are over, whule others panic even more, because end of Prelims brings us a step closer to the National Examinations. But I guess we should reward ourselves a little, before we have to come face to face with.. The Results.

Anyway, the reson why I've not been blogging lately is because, well, my computer's down. So I have to use either my brother's computer or my dad's computer to blog, which is really uncomfortable, because I feel kinda' restricted. But I'll update as much as I can in a day, which would most probably mean, a few posts in a day.

Anyway, I've been watching the Paralympics lately, and I must say, I am both delighted and disappointed in Singapore.

I am a huge fan of people who turn dreams and goals into reality. And I was delighted that there are broadcastings of the Paralympics, to show to people especially those who discriminate the disabled, that they are not worthless at all.

I am really impressed with the determination of these athletes. Not only have they proven that they can compete in sports like the normal human beings do, they have also proven that they can break records and even do the sports much better than the normal athletes themselves!

I applaud the Singapore athletes who are participating there, for their efforts and determination.

However, I am disappointed in Singapore after I read an article in the New Paper, stating that there isn't day to day coverage on the Paralympics. I mean if Singapore can show a live telecast of the Beijing olympics, and even have Jade Seah say the F-word infront of national television, then how come the Paralympics do not get the same or even better encouragement from Singapore.

I think that the athletes in Paralympics should stand at a higher level than the normal athletes just for the fact that they have proven the judgement of disability, wrong.

Is Singapore implying that we should only support the normal beings and not the disabled ones because disabled are regarded as "nothing" in our society? Is the MRT signs "give up your setas to those who are in need" just a mere saying to impress foreigners that Singapore do care for the disabled? Is there a true reason to why we are only getting updates of the Paralympics and accomlishments through the newspapers, and short telecasts on the television?

Moving on, other than trying to catch a glimpse of the Paralympics, I have been watching alot of 'America's Got Talent' lately. And I think this year, is the year with the toughest crowd, but with great contestants.

Watch the following videos if you don't believe me.

Britney Spears

Who ever thought a guy could impersonate Britney Spears so oddly well? And he does have a HOT body, for a girl.

Tina Turner

Another unique one.

Kaitlyn Maher

I don't think she can sing that well, as compared to a few years back Calbie Talbot, but sh esure is darn CUTE!

David Militello

It's a touching story, and I think he sings much better than Kaitlyn, and he is cute and resembles the Jackson 5!

My FAVOURITES

Xclusive

He proved that the Robot moves weren't out of date, yet.

The best impersonator of Ozzy, I've ever seen.

If you've got more you'd like to share with me, Leave a comment!

This is where I belong

Despite being only a quarter peranakan, I have always been intrigued by the culture.

If you have no idea what the Peranakan culture is, then maybe you should catch a glimpse of Sayang Sayang.

Yes, Sayang Sayang is actually a show entirely about the true Peranakan culture.

Well, I don't know why, but the entire culture actually is rather fascinating to me.

From the origins of Peranakans - The Babas and Nonyas

Photobucket

(Taken from wikipedia.org)

Peranakan, Baba-Nyonya (峇峇娘惹; Hokkien: Bā-bā Niû-liá) and Straits Chinese (土生華人; named after the Straits Settlements) are terms used for the descendants of the very early Chinese immigrants to the Nusantara region, including both the British Straits Settlements of Malaya and the Dutch-controlled island of Java among other places, who have partially adopted Malay customs in an effort (chronological adaptation) to be assimilated into the local communities.

The word Peranakan is also used to describe Chinese Indonesians. In both Malay and Indonesian, 'Peranakan' means 'descendants'. Babas refer to the male descendants and the Nyonyas the female. The word nyonya (also commonly spelled nonya) may originate from the Portuguese word dona, which means 'lady'.

To their unique language

The language of the Peranakans, Baba Malay (Bahasa Melayu Baba) , is a dialect of the Malay language (Bahasa Melayu), which contains many Hokkien words. It is a dying language, and its contemporary use is mainly limited to members of the older generation; this is indicative also of the Peranakan culture at large.

To the traditional beautiful marriages

To the beautiful clothing, like the Kebayas , and the precious jewelleries

Peranakans are very talented and dedicated. For example, the beaded shoes they make are all done by hand, with each bead painstakingly but beautifully threaded to the shoe, bit by bit.

To the strict etiquette and delicious cuisines

Till now my mother uses the "Anak lesong" rather than the blender to blender her spices.

And lastly, to the whole religion itself.

If you're just as interested as me, and want to find out more about Peranakans, you can actually visit the Peranakan museum in Singapore.

I think that modernisation has brought about extinction of beautiful cultures like this. I hope the Peranakan Museum can keep all the fond memories of the true Peranakan spirit, and influence the future generations into believing that not only the POP culture is "in". It is cultures like this, that makes us appreciate the beauty in things, as well as serve an eye-opener to youths, to appreciate the hard-work, determination and passion of our ancestors.
