Melanie Martinez Found this charm one day while watching The Voice a few days ago. I AM ABSOLUTELY IN LOVE WITH HER.Caitlin Michelle is just as talented by the way (loved her Florence and The Machines cover).
Hannah Trigwell Boyce Avenue led me to her :)
Bo Bruce
Was getting regular updates on my Youtube subscription, when I stumbled upon videos of her on The Voice UK. She sounds so much like the Cranberries!
Just had the sudden urge to load up dance videos and cry a river to them. Here's some of the really really good ones that made me bawl like a baby.
1. Melissa and Ade - A Woman's Work (Maxwell)
In this beautiful piece, it talks about a woman's struggle with breast cancer, and how a friend enters her life and shows her the glimmer of hope and support that she needs to fight it.
2. Jessica and Will - Silence (Unfaithful)
This dance portrayed the beauty in Human Nature. The stunning piece reminds one of the Garden of Eden, and the love shared between Adam and Eve.
3. Lacey and Neil - Time (Billy Porter)
A personal piece by Mia, of reunion in Heaven for a father and daughter.
4.Robert and Allison - Fix You (Coldplay)
This piece is actually a personal one to Travis Wall, of his mother's recovery after a major operation.
5. Ivan and Allison - Sexy Love (Ne-yo)
Mad love for Allison. And the chemistry in this is just so good!
6. Chelsie and Mark - Bleeding Love (Leona Lewis)
Another lovely piece. Mark is one of Lady GaGa's dancers now, just so you know :)
On the last day of Famine Camp 2011, special guests and performers were invited to celebrate the end of the 30 hours fast. One of the guests invited to perform was Jill-Marie Thomas. She is actually the winner of One Moment of Glory. To be really honest, I was pretty skeptical about how good she was because I was not really a fan of local talent.
However, the moment she started singing on stage, I instantaneously fell in love with her voice! And it takes mad props for someone to be able to pull off a cover of WonderGirl's "Nobody" so well that she got to advance in the competition (she joined the competition as a challenger and managed to knock them out with her unique renditions).
She is definitely one local talent that I would not mind supporting. Check out her awesome medley cover of Pokerface/ I kissed a girl below. MAD LOVE FOR THIS LADY!
Having to be born with skin colour a tad darker than Chinese, and having facial features that are a tad different from the large eyed Indians, people often mistake me for a Muslim. Now, this might not be a bad thing for some of you guys, but to me, it has been something that I have a difficult time trying to adapt to.
Before you start jumping to conclusions and begin accusing me of being a racist, let me first tell you that I am in no way against the Muslims and their religion.
It is just that every time Ramadhan approaches, I cringe in fear of being judged by some people. No, it is not because of the 'Mat and Minah' stereotypes that I get, but because of how I have to hide whenever I eat or hide my tattoo during this month.
Why, you say? Well, as mentioned earlier, many have assumed that I am a Muslim and often glare at me when I head out to head to eat before 'Itfar' or the time for breaking fast. I know most might think of not giving a damn to these people because obviously their assumptions of me being a Muslim is wrong. However, ignoring is not really blissful in this situation. This is because I have been hit with an umbrella by an elderly lady while I was having an ice cream at the bus stop. People have also come up to me and scolded me, accusing me of not having any dignity by eating in public when I am supposed to fast.
However, I have to admit, that this year was not as bad as I thought it would be because I spent most of my time at home. However, I was called an 'Anak Sial', 'Idiot child', and a pig all because I was caught having some candy, and I wore pants that had my tattoo showing, and also because of my piercings, I think. It does not really matter much to me anymore, because I have long forgiven you accusers, for the sake of humanity :)
After all, Hari Raya is about forgiving and repenting right? Anyways, here is just a little note to wish all my Muslim friends, Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri!
Have a blast reminiscing the past, forgiving each other, and filling your bellies with loads and loads of goodies!
Here's an awesome Petronas video to end this post. Enjoy!
People at my age are often labeled as 'the generation who is much close to technology than to their parents'. But if you take a step close to look, are we really the tech-savvy generation?
Well, some of us may be. It has almost become a normal routine for us to check our Facebook for updates, Twitter for new tweets, gossip blogs, email, and Youtube so much we have to be reminded to eat our meals instead of the other way round. We get the latest information (much faster than the news) and we are definitely one of the first few to begin sharing them. But then, amidst this tech-savvy generation, lie a few hidden souls and I am one of them.
What exactly am I saying? Well, I am one of the very few in this generation that know nuts about technology. And of all the types of gadgets that I've been dealing with, the simple SMS or text messaging is my one true nemesis. Now it may seem simple to you, but the simple SMS or text messaging from my friends can sometimes leave me in a state of bewilderment.
I am rather 'old-fashion' when it comes to text messaging and would prefer to ignore a text full of short forms than to reply it.
I knew that short forms were becoming 'cool', and never had it cross my mind that I'll need it during lectures (lecturer talk so fast, write one word, she finish lecture already man... but keep writing short form then later don't know how to spell properly), but still I choose to write in full complete words rather than cut them down.
But all this isn't really about whether to make it short form or complete. Over the years, I've come to realize that the short forms are getting even shorter! It seems as though it has become some Da Vinci Code now. Insane!
Anyways, check out this video. Apparently, I'm not the only one who's messed up about text messaging!
Back in those days, advertising of products were either passed by 'word of mouth' or published in the newspapers. Brochures and pamphlets were also given out just for advertisement sake. However, many of us lead busy lives these days and we rarely get to move around, other than the routine of traveling to and fro from home to school/work. Brochures and pamphlets were often discarded as we found it ridiculous to be receiving pamphlets that had little or nothing to do with us. We do read the newspapers from time to time, but we seldom flip to the advertisements. Instead we only read to check on the latest cases, gossips, and TOTO results.
With modern technology, people these days need not worry about not having a franchise of their own company. This is because they can simply open up their own blogshops and 'blog hop' around, tagging people or rather, advertising about their blogshops. Needless to say, more and more people use the television and radio to advertise their products as well.
Sometimes it is these advertisements that make us peeved as it cuts down on the 'amount' of the drama series that we get to watch. I remember back then, my brothers and I would always complain that "a 30 minutes show got 3 minutes advertisement after the theme song starts. Then in between got 3-4 advertisment. Like that only watch 10 minutes of show loh". As much as I hate to admit, I still do complain about the advertisements every now and then.
Over time, I got to realize that the advertisements actually had some plus points too. Even though they took up time from our television programmes, we actually get to see of the new products in the market, new television programmes coming soon and even new shops in town. All of this without having to leave our home, so why complain? Well, Singaporeans as we are, nothing is satisfying enough to us.
Complain all you want, but have you ever stop to think of how much creativity the advertisers have just so that they can catch our attention to watch the advertisement for that few seconds without complaining and switching channels?
Have your songs stopped and pause all other softwares as this post will be making your computer very laggy. Enough talk, on to the videos!
Cheers Commercial Thailand
Janice and Gina had a hard time describing the videos, but I still found it hilarious as they went to every detail (while we were in the train) just so that I understood. I immediately checked the video out upon reaching home and believe it or not, it was exactly the same as how they described. Really hilarious video (3 in 1) where the people exaggerate by celebrating 'every little thing in life' with Cheers.
Another hilarious advertisement from Thailand, promoting the benefits of exercise.
Yet another awesome thailand advertisement!
I caught this advertisement when I was on a trip in Malaysia. It's a Thailand advertisement again, but look at the creativity of having a story of a lizard commiting suicide for the sake of his other half that had fallen through a crack in the ceiling.
Another Thai commercial that Gina described to me.
And another Thai commercial
Yet another commercial where Gina showed and described.
Before you want to do anything embarressing, just make sure no one's watching.
And the last commercial is a really touching one. Just watch:
Ever since I was a baby, I was exposed to music and arts. My mum was a fan of the Oldies and so, the kitchen's radio was always playing Oldies that ranged from Elvis Presley to Rod Stewart, from Johnny Cash to Pat Boone.
Despite the early exposure to music, I never really tried singing (not even karaoke). I don't know if it's the fear, or simply disliking my voice.
However, my brothers and I did pick up a few instruments here and there. The love for music has and will always be in us. And singers, till this very day, never fail to amaze me. The beautiful voice that changes words into harmonious melody.
And today, I will be sharing a few new videos that simply takes my breath away.
The first one is done by PS 22 Chorus. I know I've shown this before, but it's just so awesome.
The next one is a must see, especially if you think that Acapella is awesome. This group of boys perform at graduation ceremonies. Click Here to see one of their performances where they add their own unique styles to the song.
You can click on "Green Day - Basket Case" to see how they transform from one song to the other.
Other than singers, beat boxers are on my top charts in the music industry. Check this guy out as he beat boxes like a pro! My lips go numb even by simply watching him go like that!
All the sound effects (above video) are from him.
I just feel like adding this one because I like his facial expressions as he beat box.
Listen to the speed of his beat boxing!
Yuri Lane is the first to introduce beat boxing while playing the Harmonica.
This guy's pretty cool too. He uses the recording machine to aid him in his song, just like how KT Tunstall does it. The tune is pretty similar to that of Yuri Lane.
See how this guy brings beat boxing to a whole new level when he does it while playing the flute! Though not as great as Yuri Lane, but still talented!
I actually have a Didgeridoo at home (one of my dad's impulse shopping). After watching this video, I think I shall try to learn it soon!
And lastly, my favourite video of the lot. My brother thinks they're creepy but I really like how they do it. Acapella is simply mind blowing. And I am in love with the first song that they did. It gives you the 'creepy old church with creaky doors and parquet floors, and an organ placed in the center of the church ' type of feeling.
But all the other songs are good too! Hilarious as well!
It is appalling to know that till this day, there are people out there who think that Michael Jackson's death is a huge joke.
I don't give a shit if you are not a fan or disliked him for whatever reasons. No one is in any position to criticise, mock and make a bloody joke out of his death. Come on, you could at least try to be humane and respect another person's death.
Even though I grew up listening to Michael Jackson, I am not able to recall every single song that he made. However, there are a few of my favourites.
These are the videos that I love since I was as young as 6. Despite not understanding the meaning to most of his songs back then, it was his moves that made me melt. I had a deeper admiration for him as I grew older. No one can top MJ's music. Not his moves, not his lyrics and never his strength and perseverance of all the hardship he had been through.
Why - Michael Jackson and 3T (His nephews). Why do they look so much like him? Amazing genes... So pretty looking! Anyways....here's the video:
And on to my favourite videos back then. I was so crazy over these videos back then that I would come home from school, and play the tapes (that my family had recorded just so that I could see the music videos) over and over again. I think I even had a mini crush on him after seeing 'Smooth Criminal', which was my absolute favourite then. How I always wished I could be one of those three kids in the music video.
Did you realize that his music videos and songs were not the usual type of music? What I mean is that his songs and videos had stories behind them. And that is what makes him a legend.
Apparently this kid's mum told him off, or rather hurt him so badly that anger bottled up in him had to be unleashed. And it seemed almost as though he got possessed by an alien, an ape, Godzilla. Who knows?
He even managed to strip to his boxers under the covers, while being on a rampage at the same time. I have no idea why he resorted to using the remote control and the boot though.
Amazingly violent.
Now someone go get him an exorcist.
Way scarier tha Chuckie, don't you think?
I found another video, but this time, the kid got possessed by his GameBoy.
Just watch:
The poor (or rather lucky) kid soon had his own circle of fans. And one of them even made a remix of him!
Excited at seeing these videos, I then went into a frenzy where I began clicking all the related videos into new tabs. And look at what I found!
For those who don't know who Annelise Michel is:
Anneliese Michel (September 21, 1952 – July 1, 1976) was a German Catholic woman who was said to be possessed by demons and subsequently underwent an exorcism. Two motion pictures, The Exorcism of Emily Rose and Requim, are loosely based on Michel's story. (Taken from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anneliese_Michel)
An Exorcism that happened in Philippine. There isn't much going on though, but this was actually taken from one of the shows on the National Geographic Channel.
Another one from the National Geographic Channel. However, it is set in India instead.
What happens when you leave a man alone in his office?
In this video, you get to see an officer boogie down to the song 'Nobody' by none other than the WonderGirls.
The fact that he was an male officer dancing alone in his office was simply amusing. However, I must say that he does deserve props for having to memorize the entire dance of the song. And not to forget the fact that he actually did the moves over and over again, just to have all of him (You'll get what I mean when you see the video) to be in sync with one another.
Simply an adorable idea!
He sure is enjoying himself! Look at how he sways his hips! He deserves to be on the original WonderGirl's vdeo! What'd you think?
Let's just hope his boss doesn't spot him on Youtube!
Not for the Weak-Hearted This post might make your computer a little laggy as it contains over 10 videos.
Why begin the post with a clear warning? It's because today's post is pretty much about insects. Well, maggots to be more precise.
It all started with Syuh and her discovery of seeing videos of coke causing maggots to grow on pork.
Here's the video:
From what I know, maggots are the larval stage for the common flies. They feed on dead tissues, and take less than a day to grow. So is it really possible for maggots to be formed on the pork that had been soaked in coke? Coca Cola, like all 'gas drinks' contain carbonic acid which is 'strong' enough to cause a nail to rust. However, is it possible to cause pork to rot?
Anyone willing to try this experiment out for me?
That was where my own journey filled with curiosity began. I had the habit of clicking stuff that looks tempting to me, but I always end up hitting myself for making such a move. And this time, I did the very same. I went crazy over the 'Related Videos' bit and began clicking videos after videos.
First, I side tracked a little as I found a video that showed how 'powerful' ants were. Apparently, these ants were able to digest an entire house lizard/Cicak/ I-have-no-idea-what-its-called-in-Mandarin-nor-in-Tamil.
This, my friends, is simply amazing. Watch it, and you'll know what I mean.
Realizing that I was side-tracking from the initial task of finding more maggot videos, I hopped back on trail and this was the first video that I found. Maggots are also known as Botflies. And both of these dogs had maggots in them. Coincidentally, both of them are in Costa Rica (is it a botfly infected place?). I have no idea why there are botflies in the first dog, but I do know that the second dog was injured in some barb wires. The wounds were not healing (of course lah, infected what. Rusty barb wires right) and they soon discovered botflies near the mouth of the poor dog. Here are the videos of the process where both the owners try to remove the evil botflies.
For animal lovers, it may have been cruel to see such a painful process. However, the 'fun' doesn't end there. Here's one, where the owner of a cat found a botfly in the rat that the pet caught. The black thing on the left of the video is actually the eye of the rat. Obviously, it's been chewed up by the cat. But that's not the main point. The main point is to have a look at the botfly that's movig near the rat. Awesomely gross!
This time, it's a squirrel. It's a little more gruesome as the boyfly is wriggling in the squirrel the entire time. The main focus is again, not on that nor is it on the squirrel, but rather, the size of that bloody maggot!
Now that's all for the torurous part for you animal lovers. On to the more squimish parts! Botflies in humans!
Let's begin with this girl who had a botfly in her neck. What hit me hard was the hole that the maggot caused when it was squeezed out of the girl's neck. The freakin' hole is like the size of a bubble tea pearl!
Okay, maybe a little exaggerated. But still...
And on to the head. This unfortunate lady was returning from Costa Rica (See, almost all the cases are from there!). She seemed fine at first, but over the next couple of days, her head began swelling. Tests showed that she had a botfly growing in her head. Watch as the doctor pulls out the maggot from her head (you never know what's in you until it's too late).
She even gets to keep it as a souvenier!
The last two videos, have nothing to do with maggots. I happened to side track again as I found an interesting video about parasites growing in our stomachs because of processed food, fast food and all the major no-nos.
The creepy fellow actually looks like a small dragon!
Unfortunately, the embedded request is denied, thus you have to Click Here to see that dragon!
And lastly, the video that got me all freaked out. This video claims that we have worms in our faces. And the person actually proves it by wiping some stuff all over two man's face. Watch as this tiny whitish-transparent worms begin crawling out of the mans' faces.
Taken from the description: "A day in the life of a typical working class Singaporean named Terry reveals to us many Singaporean characteristics that we do not pay much attention to. This film shows how little things can bring out the "singaporean-ness" in us, and gives us a good reason to be proud of our country. ".
Just be wary of who the person might actually be, the next time you plan on "jio-ing"/ whistling at someone.
What the actor and actress in Titanic, actually wanted to say. In hokkien!
This video is a parody of Wonder Girl's 'Nobody'. Done by Mr Brown and gang, they comeback with hilarious lyrics (to the tune of Nobody) based on the recent H1Ni pandemic.

And what good way to end this post other than to show you my favourite video? Pokemon used to be one of my favourite cartoons but I soon got confused over the many versions of it.
And this my friends, is an awesome video of the Pokemon theme song.
I once dedicated an entire post to videos found on Youtube a long time ago. I posted videos such as the Tamil thriller, the colourful Hokkien Songs, the two talented guys, and also, the two hilarious girls.
Now, over the years, we've seen tonnes of videos of people performing covers of great artistes. And we've seen many hilarious parodies of certain artistes as well. In fact, I've even seen subliminal messages in some videos such as Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven (below).
Even songs by Rihanna were not left untouched. The wonders of Youtube.
We've seen and heard all of this already. So what's new?
The Hokkien Version of Rihanna's hit song, "Umbrella"!
Till then!
Yes, it's a new layout for my blog. Fresher, cleaner look. And of course, with a huge writing space for my posts.
In case you didn't know, I am a huge fan of Youtube. And every once in awhile, I'd be searching aimlessly around Youtube until I settle on something that really catches my eyes, ears and heart.
When it comes to singing, it's not what makes the song sound right, but it's what makes the song RIGHT. I don't have ideal genres that I worship in particular (it used to be in the Metal Genre, then shifted to Oldies, and then R&B. But I have since shifted my taste all around, because there can never be just one artist that is good.)
Anyways, the addiction to Adam Lambert and Susan Boyle is now over. I'm now totally head over heels for PS22 Chorus!
I think that this is by far their best video(below) because it's meaningful through the lyrics, and the kids portray the song is such a beautiful way that I can't stop replaying the video.
Great song choice by Perez and also great vocals from the kids.
Enjoy!

And just before I end this post, I'd like to share two other videos.
Who'd knew that 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star' could be sung in so many ways?!? I really enjoyed the first video and I think that Bhangra/Punjabi music is really upbeat and fast, so much that it makes you wanna' get on your feet to groove!
And no, this is not a means to be racist and make fun of their music. Douche Bags.
