Merry Christmas

Christmas is always celebrated at my place because it is the one occasion where my family is brought together regardless of their race, or any other differences. It is the one occasion where we sing, laugh, eat, drink and leave all the negativity behind. What I love about Christmas the most, is the company and the magical effect it has on us all.

Don't you agree that there's something magical about Christmas? I don't know if it's the ambiance, the company or simply the thought of it that makes it all so special, but I'm loving it.

And what else to top it off than a Christmas movie? Till this very day, one of my favourite movie would have to be "When the Grinch Stole Christmas".

Not only is Cindy Lou Who cute,

That's Taylor Momsen, in case you didn't know.

But I love the storyline and song as well.

So have a very blessed Christmas and enjoy yourselves to your hearts content!

Happy Holidays!

My Family Tree

I come from a long line of various races in my family. And I don't think it'll ever stop. Well, I hope not. And today, I shall reveal my family tree! Well, I'm actually not sure myself as to how many races there are.

Let's just start with my parents. Well, my dad's side doesn't really have a "happening" heritage. But I'm happy to be able to have a taste of Indian culture.

<span class=

Everything, from the colours used, clothing, music played, taste of food and even their dramas shown are one of a kind; Unique.

Now comes the complicated part, my mum's side. My grandma is actually a Peranakan straight from Malacca (
Melaka).

<span class=

This culture too had great food (Nyonya food and delicacies are a must try), fantastic creativity (they have traditional methods of beading to make shoes. They even sew their own designs on their
Kebaya. ), and strict rules.

On festive occasions, Nyonyas are known to sleep on tins with their hair decorated with pins. They have so much discipline in them, that when they wake up, not a strand of hair is out of place.

They also have strict rules when in the kitchen. From how to use the
anak lesong, to serving people, to "restricted words" that shan't be mentioned while cooking.

One has to be feminine when wearing the
kebaya. You wear clogs, or Nyonya slippers(modern) and have to walk slowly in them. Well, I'm both happy and sad that I do not have to follow the traditions. Happy, because I know that I'm bound to fail immediately. But sad, because this culture is dying out soon.

Anyway, if you wanna' read more about Peranakans, Click Here!

But truth to be told, my grandma is totally Peranakan. There's Javanese, Boyanese (Baweanese), Eurasian and so on.

Now this post is in fact not about showing off my family tree, well maybe alittle. But the main part actually has a lot to do with celebrations.

Chinese New Year is celebrated because, well, my mum's side is termed as Chinese. Deepavali is celebrated with my dad's side. My mum and brother are Christians, and my mum's side celebrates it as well, some are Catholics, whereas the rest... Just celebrate it for the joy of it. One of my aunt's fiance is a Malay, so we more or less have Hari Raya celebrations as well. We don't do the fasting and all, but we do eat!

Moving on...

Whenever I share with my friends, or strangers about my mixed heritage, most of them would go "wah, so good. Get to celebrate so many festivities. Sure got a lot of money right?".

Well, that's not really true. I know that celebrations are really about collecting money nor counting money, but I am going to talk about it. Sue Me.

Anyway, while most of you receive from both sides of your family on CNY/ Hari raya/Deepavali, I only receive half of it per celebration. Get what I mean? So you guys are actually more "blessed" to receive all the money in one celebration whereas I, have to wait till October/November to receive the second "round" of cash giving.

Who's the poor thing now? Hahah.

But if you're talking about food, yes, I am blessed to sample the various types of dishes. But you can too. Just head to the nearest Kopitiam, and order another races' dish. That'll do the trick.

Spring Cleaning

I know it's kind of a wrong time to do Spring Cleaning, with Christmas being only FIVE days away. And it doesn't make things any better, knowing the fact that I have not bought any gifts for anyone whatsoever. But heck, can't we celebrate Christmas without presents? Hahaha, just you, me and FOOD.

Anyway, back to the spring cleaning. Well, I didn't really spring clean the entire house, nor did I clean my entire room. I just did a portion of my room. And despite throwing two filled thrash bags, my room looks the same, worst in fact. I guess that's what happens when you're not doing it completely.

Well, I was clearing off my Secondary One and Two books, yes the old ones. And I must say, I did scribble alot of nonsense on ALOT of papers! There were doodles, drawings, and even "THIS IS SO BORING" signs on papers.

And I found some treasures! Well, not real treasures, but ones that I'll remember for a long time. I didn't take any photos of them except one.

Well the first one, was kind of an obsession. I used to be drawn to Gothic fonts, the decorative types. And I would design the same fonts in Gothic style whenever I can. There were projects, where I did the presentations on construction paper, with the fonts of course. Then there were science projects, where I did "LIGHT" and actually had the font done in Gold Gothic fonts. And there were many others. It was a tedious work but I really liked doing it, so no complains.

Then I found my Home Econs file, and I finally understood why my teacher didn't like me that much. I wrote all the wrong Vitamins and their purposes. And my sewing was atrocious. I kinda' feel bad for monkeying around back then. But it was still fun, because all I did in her class was iron clothes for others, and take ribbons, ALOT of them. But I would like to add, that I am definitely better at sewing than back then. Hahah.

Next up, I found my Art pieces. I showed some of them here in my blog. And I guess Art was my best subject, I never failed it, and never gotten Cs before. I'm not bragging, just proud that there's at least one subject I was good in. But unfortunately, it wasn't offered when I went to Sec.3. Oh well, Art was also another obssession. I loved vectors, and mystical creatures. I loved shading flowers and always had a little man in my art pieces, whether it was relevant or not. He had to be spotted, he was either in a parachute, flyign down with an umbrella, or sliding down some curve. But I guess the reason why I enjoyed Art class the most, was because I felt free, I could draw anything I wanted, based on how I interpreted the title of each drawing.

And last, I found my literature file! Literature class was really enjoyable, but one class I remember the most was when we were tasked to draw the "After" look of Johnny or PonyBoy from the story "Outsiders". I'll upload the photo of the "after" Johnny that I drew. It's was really disgusting! The guy had elf-like ears, two ponytails, a beard, snob flowing down his nose, and flies flying above his head! Hahah.

Oh, and I found the "Anti-Twit"pledge that Syuh, Raudah and I made! Fret not, I'm long over the Anti-Twit thing, and I'm sure the rest are too. But boy, looking at the names, the reasons, the pledge, and how to spot them, everything was so damn hilarious. This is definitely going to be in my cupboard for a long time, I don't think I'm going to throw it away. Hahhaa.

Any idea on what to get for friends? It's been awhile since I did hardcore shopping, so I'm kinda' stuck. Help?

Christmas Wish

I was thinking of my Christmas Wish just now, and while writing it down, one of them was already granted! Now I know Christmas wishes are only to be granted on Christmas Day itself, but I guess this one can't wait.

Well, the wish was to actually have all my friends, if not most, to pass their "N" level Examinations. And I'm happy to say that the dear ones that are closest to my heart(You know who you guys are!) have cleared their "N" obstacle.

I must say, it was pretty nerve-wrecking, waiting for them to tell me their results. And around 2.35, Yiling buzzed me. She tried acting on the phone that she wasn't promoted, but her goofy "Hello Keth lynnnn!!" gave everything away. Hahaha. I was "harassed" further by her "SEXY VOICE" as claimed by herself, and was told that other friends did well too!

I was really happy for her, and told her that I would treat her for some Ice Cream some other time, and being the Goddess of Food that she is, she couldn't stop reminding me about the treat. Hahaha.

Received a few SMS from some of the rest telling me they did well too! I was kind of sad that I wasn't there to celebrate with them. But I am, without a doubt for all of them! And I do hope that all of them do progress farther in their journey in Life!

Anyway, back to the wish list. Well, usually wish lists are of things that people want, like a new hoodie, or something like that. But my wish list is going to be unique, and can only be granted if Santa Claus can really hear me loud and clear.

Three wishes, that's all I want.

First Wish: To forever have money in my pocket. I'm not asking for billions of dollars, nor am I asking for a huge bulge in my pocket. Just money in my pocket, so that I have enough to pay for my family, and my own needs.

Second Wish: For everyone, especially close ones(family and friends) to my heart, to be in the pink of health. This is so that I can repay them with all the love that they have showered on me. And also so that they can enjoy their lives without having to worry about their health. I'm not asking everyone to be immortal, just be in good health.

Last Wish: I would hand this wish to anyone out there in the world that needs it more than I do. I would love to grant someone else's wish, just to see a light of hope, faith and happiness in their faces.

So what's your Christmas Wish list like?

Oh Holy Night

Christmas is in exactly a weeks time.

And I'm sure everyone is excited about it. I've passed through many houses that has beautiful Christmas Trees, Wreaths, Lights and even Candy Canes. And who can miss out on the Christmas carols and classical music that dances with the flame on the burning candles.

Everyone's busy shopping, buying presents for their friends, families and close ones. Picking out the right gift can be tough sometimes, because you never know if the person really likes it, or if the gift is enough for you to afford.

But after buying the gifts, you happily race back home and lock yourself in your room. Then you begin taking the gifts out one by one, and wrapping them yourselves. While doing so, you'll question yourself "Why didn't I buy this for myself? I want one too!". Then, once you're done wrapping them up, you paste Christmas stickers that has the word "to" and "from" and you write you name and your friend's/families' name. Then you happily walk to your Christmas tree and place each and every present neatly under the tree.

Then you wake up the next day, only to find that your dog has peed under the tree, but thankfully, none of the presents were "blessed" with his pee. You yell at him, and then realize that you missed a gift for someone that was important to the family. You dash out of the house, and buy the gift. You place it under the tree. Now everything is perfect.

Christmas Eve comes, and you can't wait for evening to come. When it does, your mum switches off all the white lights, and switches on the dim orange lights. She presses play on the Stereo System and Elvis Presley is singing.

You run around the house as you brother chases you. And then when it's time for dinner, your mum yells for you, and you head to the kitchen to help lay out the food on the dining table. You sit down patiently, or rather impatiently waiting for everyone else to sit down.

You eye the food as you see everyone loosen the belt on their pants, to make room for more food. Then there's the food. Mmm, the scrumptious Shepard pie, with the mouth watering Apple Pie. Not to forget the sizzling, smoking hot Turkey.

Then when all that's done, you have Log Cake for deserts. If that isn't enough, then turn on the chocolate fondue, dip your favourite fruit in, and devour the silky smooth larva.

You thought that the Chocolate Fondue was the only thing to keep you at it, but you were wrong. You hear a "pop" sound and realizes that it was your dad who had popped a bottle of wine. Then there's the round of wine, followed by Vodka, and if lucky, all the Anthon Berg spirits would be devoured.

You continue eating, and watching TV/ listening to the classics till you can't eat no more. You start sending SMS wishing your friends Merry Christmas and you wait as your phone buzzes non stop from the messages to and fro. You watch more TV and then it's time. Everyone, including your dog gathers round the Christmas Tree. We start handing each other gifts and we viciously, and excitedly tear open the wrappers. When we're all done, you take a small present that's left unwrap and you call your dog over. You unwrap it, and hands him his new collar/toy.

Then we all go to bed, smiling to our heart and tummy's content!

And that's how I spend my Christmas every year, and I hope it doesn't change much this year.

How do you spend yours?
