It's the end of the world!

If you have received a text some time over April, about a Tsunami warning that pretty much goes like this:

''Hello there. I just wanted 2 let you know that please stay away from the beaches all around in the month of July. There is a prediction that there will be another tsunami hitting on July 22nd. It is also when there will be sun eclipse. Predicted that it is going 2 be really bad and countries like Malaysia (Sabah & Sarawak), Singapore, Maldives, Australia, Mauritius, Si Lanka, India, Indonesia, Philippines are going 2 be badly hit. Please try and stay away from the beaches in July. Better 2 be safe than sorry. Please pass the word around. Please also pray for all beings."

Thanks and have a nice day.

Bless you~ ''

You need not panic. Because, after checking it out on the net I realized that earthquakes are not formed by eclipses nor are they formed by gravitational pulls.

What do earthquakes have anything to do with tsunami? Well, tsunamis are in fact "large ocean waves brought about by sudden movement in the ocean floor. It is often brought about by Earthquakes, but a volcanic eruption, underwater landslide, or even a large meteor striking Earth could set one off".

If you're interested to know more about it, Click Here

Speaking of meteors hitting Earth....

Most of you would have heard of Solar Storm 2012. No? Well, it's either you guys are so oblivious to your surroundings and the news, or you can't be bothered that Earth is about to be annihilated.

Yes! The Earth is about to be annihilated!

Solar Storms in the year 2012!

Okay, maybe it's in an exaggerated tone. But even so, we should panic. But panic only after you read This, This and This
lah.

Are You Happy?

I got the two topics for today's post, off today's New Paper.

The first one that I am going to talk about is Quality Time.

Most families in Singapore hardly have time together. And one of the reasons why there isn't family time is because both of your parents are busy working. Holiday trips may be cancelled, they may chase us away when we ask them for help. But what can I say, do you know how annoying it is to know that someone needs your help the moment you trudge back to home? Despite all the hard work that they put in, I don't expect them to be the slightest bit happy to help us immediately after work. In a simpler term, use your brain lah. Ask at the right time mah. Ask wrong time and you might as well get your head bitten off.

But this misunderstanding often leads to us kids pushing all the blame on our parents, accusing them of not wanting the family to be united. And on top of that, we add on unnecessary stuff like 'you hate us', 'we were shot-gun babies and that is why you don't care about us', 'you are so selfish that you work and think for yourself, not caring about us at all'. And this would be accompanied by door-slams, meals skipping and throwing of tantrums.

But my friends, what we fail to notice about our parents is that they are actually working their asses off for the future of us, their kids. Some may still be thinking "They never buy for me the stuff I want, means they don't love me". but have you bought for them the things they wanted? No? Does that mean you don't love them too?

My family and I seldom go on family trips together. We seldome talk at home because everyone's awake and out at different timings. In fact, we rarely see each other. And to make matters worst, I don't really get along that well with one of my kin.

Up till now, I never questioned my parents to why we never really went overseas. But instead I thank them for bringing me up in this world, to see both the good and bad of people, and of course to feel loved by your very own blood.

This brings me to the next topic: TV

No place was as special than spending quality time at home, watching TV.

When I was younger, I was really idiotic. There were numerous times when I would simply walk away while the whole family was watching tv, just because it was too noisy. There were also times when I walked away while my dad and I were watching TV, just because my dad had the habit of making the "tsk tsk tsk" sound whenever a car exploded or someone got killed. He would also (being musically talented) tap the chairs and drums that we have near the TV, to the beat of the music on TV. I found it irritating.

But what I failed to realise was the hurt that my family members had, seeing me, the youngest, peeved about everything.

And so, over the years, I tried to change. There are still times where I couldn't take the noise, but instead of walking away rudely, I would increase the volume, so much that they would take a hint. In fact, this has worked out so well, that all my family members are adopting the same method, doing it to whoever who is talking loudly. Hahaha.

And through this "Family TV time", we actually learned alot from the channels we watch. My family knows that I love making fun of exaggerated screams and shouts from the Tamil Dramas. They also love leaving the Tv on whenever "America's Funniest Home Videos" was on, and would watch me instead, as I laugh to every single video that was played. Like my brothers, I also enjoy watching Taboo, and all the tattoo shows, like tattoo wars, Miami Ink and so on. They also know that I like watching Naruto and Avatar.

And I also found out more about them. My mum loves romance movies, and prefers the teens genre than the classics.

My dad loves watching movies that has guns, helicopters, army and wars. Whenever there was his movie on, he would switch off all the lights, switch on all the sound systems, amplify them, and cushion up his chair.

My brother Vernon loves nothing more than Cartoon Network. He'll watch PowerPuff Girls, Courage the Cowardly Dog and any other cartoons on screen.

And lastly, my brother Jason. He's pretty unique. Because he loves watchign Documentaries, and can even tell you all the details of the machineries used in war. He loves Bruce Lee and thinks he's the next Hritik Roshan. And he's the one who's always watching my every move when I watch "America's Funniest Home Videos".

Reasearch has shown that people who watch Tv are not as happy as the people who don't. Because the happy people usually busy their life with enjoyable trips, memorable moments and splendid activities.

Well, I don't think my family can be any happier than watching television together. I'm happy enough.

Loves.

School support us, Youth Bloggers?

A few days back, a reporter from Shin Min daily called me for a phone interview. It was an interview about this post.

Where I talked about the incident that "Sidelinedstudent" had with his school, taken from Omy.sg

The reporter was really nice and jovial, and she asked question pertaining to the incident, like how I felt about sidelinedstudent not being supported by his school, how I felt about my school, why my school did not support youth bloggers, and basically every curious question any one would have asked to dig out more information.

The reporter was shocked when I told her that teachers were on Facebook and Friendsters, and would accept our friend requests, without being anonymous.

I told her many reasons to why my school did not support blogging, and I even recalled incidents where teachers approached me about my posts. I also revealed about how some students were asked to delete their blogs, because it contained mentionings of the school.

I wouldn't be surprised if this hoo-haa about schools supporting bloggers, comes out in the newspaper. And in a way, I guess it's good, such that schools who are reading this, would be aware of how we students feel, and how we actually regard them as important parts of our lives, that is why we inform them of our happenings.

Every single student are ambassadors of the school, and we should have responsibility to blog, be it about the school or any other things. But I feel that if a student blogs about a "bad thing" (let's say, a teacher made a rude remark about him because he was always late for school. Calling him a rebellion and slacker, without finding the actual truth behing things) that happened in school, I don't think it should be counted as irresponsible because the student is merely expressing how injustice was shown by the school, to him.

Even if my school were to approach me and ask me to stop blogging, and lecture me about the importance of studying, being that it is the O'level year, I would not stop blogging. Because as I had told the reporter, blogging is not only a hobby but a talent and passion. Not everyone can blog interestingly, and I do believe that blogging can bring people far.

Although there are plenty of plus-points of the interview, such as the school being more aware of how we feel of blogging, and that they should lighten up, I personally feel that the schools would keep a closer eye on those who are bloggers.

And though I have said alot about my school, I somehow fear that they would turn nasty towards me. It's my O'level year and I don't want anything bad to happen that might debar me from taking the National Exams.

But if the school debars me, then wouldn't there be an issue where "School bans student from exam because of blogging"? hahha, I love the press.

How can Omy.sg do this to me?

I feel really depressed. If you read my previous day's entry, you would have realized that two kind souls actually stayed up till 12am to help me out with my pictures for om.sg (promoting of voting phase for top 10 finalists).

Photobucket

In fact, Shera was still up at 3am to send me the finalized piece. I'm really touched and I am going to get something for both Khairul and Shera to thank them, of course.

Anyway, I woke up this morning and eagerly switched on my computer to send the 2 pictures to Omy.sg. In case you're wondering what's with the taking of pictures, it's actually a "project" to aid omy.sg in publicizing the voting phase, and thus we have to take 2 pictures of our hands, doing something that symbolizes blogging.

I came up with two ideas and snapped some pictures of my hand, keyboard and newspaper articles, before sending it to Shera and Khiarul. They noted every single detail that I wanted and this is what the 2 finalized piece looks like.

Photobucket

The first picture actually consists of my hand, a keyboard and a newspaper article on famous blogger, mr Brown. The hand on keyboard is actually acting as a surfer, who surfs (the net) for news on latest blog posts and famous bloggers.

Photobucket

The second picture consist of my hand, on a keyboard, with the words only as B L O G. this shows that bloggers definitely need their hands on the keyboard 24/7 as they're addicted to blogging.

I sent my pictures to marketing@omy.sg and happily switched off my computer before heading to school.

I got home later at 7pm and was devastated when I checked my email.

Hi, attached are my 2 pictures to aid in the publicizing of the voting phase. The first picture is of my hand, on a keyboard, gliding on a news paper article about bloggers. I feel the hand on keyboard represents the whole "surfing the net" and the newspaper artcle represents bloggers, as well as news for fellow bloggers to blog about. The second picture, is of my hand, on a keyboard which only reads the letters B L O G. I think that this really shows that bloggers are addicted to blogging. I hope like the pictures! Thanks, Kethlyn"

Apparently omy.sg's email is full and I cannot send in my pictures!!! Furthermore, it's already 8pm and the dateline was at 6pm! How can!!!

I'm really disappointed. There goes Shera and Khairul's effort in helping me, and there goes mine, in wishing to aid in the publicizing.

I'm really sad now, I hope Omy.sg comes up with some solution quick.
